Career Background
Before joining Sun Acquisitions, Toby spent 18 years as Senior Vice President at Kemper Sports Management, the Northbrook, Illinois–based golf, sports, and hospitality management company. Founded in 1978, Kemper Sports manages more than 140 golf courses, private clubs, resorts, and athletic venues nationwide, including Bandon Dunes Golf Resort in Oregon (ranked the No. 1 golf resort in North America by Golf Digest and Golf Magazine) and Chambers Bay in Washington (host of the 2015 U.S. Open). The company employs more than 7,000 people.
In his role at Kemper Sports, Toby developed deep expertise in business development, deal origination, contract negotiation, and operational management across a national portfolio of hospitality and sports properties. This experience in structuring and negotiating complex management agreements, partnership arrangements, and property transactions directly informs his advisory work at Sun Acquisitions.

Toby joined Sun Acquisitions in 2012 and has completed more than 15 transactions during his tenure. His deal experience spans the firm’s core lower-middle-market focus, with enterprise values typically between $1 million and $5 million.

Toby has served on the Board of the Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago Pro-Am Golf Event for 30 years. Lurie Children’s is one of the top-ranked pediatric hospitals in the United States, consistently named among the best children’s hospitals by U.S. News & World Report. The Pro-Am Golf Event is a major annual fundraiser supporting the hospital’s clinical care and research programs.
