Larry Sanderman is a Managing Director at Sun Acquisitions, where he has led buy-side and sell-side M&A transactions for privately held businesses since 2017. He has 25 years of mergers and acquisitions experience, spanning over 100 transactions across a breadth of industries including business services, distributorships, financial services, and manufacturing. At Sun Acquisitions, Larry typically works on deals between $1 million and $20 million in enterprise value, with select engagements up to $50 million.
Before joining Sun Acquisitions, Larry spent twelve years as Director of Corporate Development at Cabot Microelectronics Corporation (Nasdaq: CCMP), a global supplier of semiconductor manufacturing materials operating across the United States, Europe, and Asia. His notable transactions at Cabot Microelectronics included the acquisition of NexPlanar Corporation, a Hillsboro, Oregon–based developer of advanced semiconductor polishing pad technology, for approximately $142 million in 2015; and the acquisition of Epoch Material Co., Ltd., a CMP slurry manufacturer headquartered in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, for $66 million in 2009. Both transactions expanded Cabot’s product suite and manufacturing footprint.
Prior to Cabot Microelectronics, Larry spent eight years at General Electric Capital Corporation in progressively senior roles. He served as Vice President of Corporate Development for GE Capital Railcar Services in Chicago, where he led acquisitions, divestitures and strategic partnerships in the rail leasing and logistics sector. Earlier, he served as Vice President and Director of Business Development for GE Capital Auto Financial Services, and as Manager of Financial Planning and Analysis. During his tenure at GE Capital, Larry’s notable transactions included the acquisition of Comerica’s auto loan portfolio, a transaction valued in excess of $1 billion, and the divestiture of GE Capital’s marine chassis portfolio to Flexi-Van, a transaction valued in the hundreds of millions of dollars.
Larry began his career at Coopers & Lybrand (now PricewaterhouseCoopers) in Chicago as a Staff and Senior Auditor, and subsequently spent seven years at Household International in various progressive Accounting and Finance roles. Of particular note at Household International, Larry helped coordinate the first unsecured consumer loan securitization through its design, execution and final approval with each rating agency. This $1+ billion securitization was credited with the Asset Backed Security Deal of The Year Award by the International Financing Review.
Larry’s transaction experience spans a broad range of industries. In manufacturing, he has worked on deals involving aerospace parts, chemicals, industrial machinery, metal, optics, semiconductor materials, and steel fabrication. In financial services, his background includes auto lending, commercial lending, and leased asset portfolios. He also has deal experience in industrial distribution and wholesale, and in services sectors including HVAC, industrial services, IT services, waste management, and professional firms such as engineering consultancies.
Larry handles both buy-side and sell-side advisory engagements in approximately equal proportion, giving him a dual perspective on deal dynamics. He works with all buyer types, including first-time individual buyers, strategic acquirers, private equity groups, family offices, and Corporate Development teams. His geographic focus is primarily the United States, and he also has cross-border transaction experience in Canada and Taiwan.
At Sun Acquisitions, Larry has completed multiple transactions for repeat clients, a pattern that reflects long-term advisory relationships. These multiple transaction engagements have included Alliance Foods, Contractors Network, P&W Golf Supply, and Recycle Track Systems, spanning distribution, manufacturing, and the services sectors on both the buy-side and sell-side.
Larry is a Certified Public Accountant and holds an MBA with concentrations in Accounting and Finance from the University of Chicago. He also holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting with High Honors from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
Larry received the General Electric Pinnacle Award twice and the Cabot Microelectronics President’s Award twice, along with more than ten additional management awards across his career at Coopers & Lybrand, Household International, GE Capital, and Cabot Microelectronics.
Previously, Larry was an active member of the Association for Corporate Growth (ACG), Chicago Chapter, where he helped organize and lead the Corporate Development Group. ACG is the premier global organization for professionals in corporate growth, mergers and acquisitions, and corporate development.
